There has been talk about an ‘Unbreakable’ sequel for basically 17 years now. Finally, it’s officially happening as of this week. It even has a release date. M. Night Shyamalan will surely make this amazing so, needless to say, I’m very excited.
Warning: the following article contains spoilers about ‘Split’ (2016)! If you have not seen that movie and don’t want any spoilers about it, stop reading this now! But you know, browse other stuff on Our Movie Life.
This week, M. Night Shyamalan announced that the upcoming sequel will be called ‘Glass’, after the main villain of ‘Unbreakable’. Since Samuel L. Jackson was playing that villain in the first part, it’s confirmed that he will return for this crossover. Bruce Willis is also certain to appear as David Dunn and so is James McAvoy as… as The Beast? I honestly have no idea who James McAvoy will be playing in this. But anyway, yes, this movie is officially really happening! Its official release date is January 18, 2019.
At the very end of ‘Split’, it was revealed that the story took place in the same universe as ‘Unbreakable’. Bruce Willis even cameod in the 2016 thriller. That hinted for for a sequel, but we’ve been talking about one for so long and its never happened. Thus, I was very skeptical about the actual release of an ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Split’ crossover. So, I’m very surprised, but utterly pleased, that it really got announced by Universal earlier this week.

I’m sure M. Night Shyamalan won’t screw this up. He’s been waiting for an ‘Unbreakable’ sequel for so long and has had the idea of it in his head for many years now. I’m sure the execution will be amazing. At least, let’s hope. The mere concept of this is amazing, so let’s hope they make a masterpiece production.
