All Marvel Netflix Shows Ranked (By Story Arcs)

In honor of ‘The Defenders’ (which is coming out in six days, finally), I decided to quickly give you all an update on all Marvel Netflix shows so far. I will be ranking not only all seasons, but also all separate arcs within those seasons. Enjoy.

7. ‘Daredevil’ Season 2: The Hand Arc

I’ve never been, say, disappointed by a Marvel Netflix show; I have, however, felt dishonored by certain story arcs. Let me explain why: the Hand thing is getting old. I’m tired of seeing the same villains, the same ninjas, and the same structured conflicts and fights. Not to say that I didn’t generally enjoy the Hand arc in the second second of ‘Daredevil’, but I wasn’t much interested or invested in the story. It is made and told well, just far too ordinary.

6. ‘Luke Cage’: The Diamondback Arc

The reason why this is so low on the list is just because of how much it altered my general opinion of ‘Luke Cage’. I would have said that this is one of the best superhero shows out there… if it wasn’t for the final two or three episodes. The Diamondback arc just seemed a bit silly, especially compared to what was happening beforehand. In the beginning we had Cottonmouth as this fantastic villain and the show was touching on very important subjects as racism and discrimination and then suddenly… some random guy in a strength-enhancing suit? Really?

5. ‘Iron Fist’

‘Iron Fist’ has gotten the most hate from fans and critics alike. Everyone is saying it’s too simple, unstructured, and that it doesn’t serve justice to the comics. I did notice all of those things and I wouldn’t say it is a perfect show, but ‘Iron Fist’ definitely isn’t as bad as everyone says; it’s at least enjoyable. There are many plot holes and the story is uneven, but it’s still one of those entertaining, yet generally well-made and told shows. It’s not on the same level as the other Marvel Netflix shows, but when you compare it to everything on TV out there, I would say it’s even above average.

4. ‘Luke Cage’: Cottonmouth Arc

Now here is where I simply start praising, starting with the Cottonmouth arc in ‘Luke Cage’. Man, was that a fantastic performance by Mahershala Ali. I would say he created the second best villain out of them all. This particular arc is truly fantastic not only because of Cottonmouth, but also because we get to know Luke Cage and experience his struggles. Also, this show in particular touches on so many intimate and important subjects.

3. ‘Daredevil’ Season 2: Punisher Arc

The Punisher is, undoubtedly, one of the best characters from all the shows. Getting to know him and watching him develop was such a thrill. Plus, Punisher’s relationship with Davedevil was, to me, one of the most interesting things from any show. Not only that, in this first half of ‘Daredevil’ season two we see a lot of new and exciting things happen to Daredevil himself and the plot is generally very enticing.

2. ‘Daredevil’ Season 1

The one that started it all. ‘Daredevil’ season one is a sparkling and pimped-out show from start to finish; the showrunners have managed not only to tell an enticing story, but to do so in an original and provocative way. The plot sucks you in and never let’s you go, Daredevil is a very well-created character, the direction is exciting, and you deeply care about everything. Kingpin is a brilliant and brutal villain and I dare you to mention another show that gets us to care so much about a terrifying killing mafia boss.

1. ‘Jessica Jones’

‘Jessica Jones’ is a series about, well, everything. Any important subject, any entertainment value, any type of character, any original method of direction or storytelling, you have it; you have it all. It’s a close-to-perfect production and I am delighted that it simply exists. One could hardly call this a superhero show, but that is the beauty of it. It doesn’t find its originality because of superheroes or superpowers, but rather because of how well it presents the topics at hand and how perfectly Jessica is created and developed. It also has quite a lot of entertainment value, on top of being a completely genius show.

Oh, and Kilgrave. It all gets a thousand times better because of Kilgrave.

All the show are fantastic, really. What Marvel did with these productions is astonishing: they managed to create a superhero universe that is not cliche-filled and that actually teaches a lesson while simultaneously being fun to watch. This, right here, is good entertainment. I would, and probably will, rewatch all of these in the future. Meanwhile, all I can do is keep waiting in excitement for ‘The Defenders’.
