Three Shows That Have Stayed Consistent/Improved in Quality

We’re still bitter about Game of Thrones. That ending. That final season. Just so damn underwhelming. And to think it used to be one of the best shows on television.

But that made us curious.

It made us think about all the shows that we’ve seen & talked about here at OurMovieLife over the last couple of years. It made us think about how many of them actually stay consistent in quality or improve with each new season. So we made a list. Almost 100 shows were on it. And we went through that list.

Three made the cut.

Game of Thrones is NOT on this list.

And we’re not picking three for the sake of writing an article. No, these are all the shows that we believe have stayed consistent in quality throughout. But before we start, two notes. Note one, we had two requirements for what fits this list: one, the show has to have three or more seasons out and two, those seasons all need to be of the same/exponentially better quality. And note two: we have not seen all shows on television. This list comprises only those that we’ve personally followed and been stunned by.

So here we go. In no particular order.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The squad.

The adventures of Jake Peralta and the 99th precinct squad. Brooklyn Nine-Nine caught our attention six years ago when it was still running its first season. A sitcom starring the legendary The Lonely Island member Andy Samberg? And that genius cast, that genius dialogue, the brilliant comedy and delivery? We were sold on day one.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has managed not only to rise and establish itself as one of the best comedy shows ever, but has also stayed consistent in quality, thus gathering a huge fanbase and allowing itself to play around. And it works. Even after NBC picked it up after that FOX cancellation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine stands strong. As strong as ever.

The 100

Marie Avgeropoulos is Octavia Blake.

We’ve talked about this before. We’ve praised it. And no one believes us.

The 100 is a CW show. It’s not something most people want to watch or expect to be great. The 100 proves those people wrong. This is a prime example of a series improving in quality with each passing season. Season one? Cheesy, generic, and honestly, quite bad. But since then? Every season goes above and beyond the previous one. And right now, six years later, the new episodes are better than ever and even reaching the heights of great television on better networks.

The 100 is one of the few shows on TV that manages to stay true within its world while simultaneously expanding it. It’s one of the few shows that has raw and deeply flawed characters; and they stay consistent throughout. We’ll never get tired of bringing attention to The 100. Check it out if you haven’t. But please, bear through those first few episodes.

Breaking Bad

Name a more iconic duo. We’re waiting.

Ah, yes. The Holy Grail of television.

Breaking Bad is, to this day, the best story in visual format. That includes cinema. Breaking Bad is perfect. There really isn’t much more to say, honestly. It does everything perfectly. There is not one flaw to it. It goes above everything that has ever been and probably will be. It’s the best show of all time. And it got better with every passing season.

Read our in-depth thoughts on the perfection of Breaking Bad here.

Some concluding thoughts.

It’s a bit sad, really. From a list of more than 100 series, three made the cut? That’s rather underwhelming. There are a lot of good shows out there, but the number of those that are the same level of good throughout is astonishingly small. The quality may be consistent, but you know what really matters? The level of quality.

Guess it’s true what they say. Miniseries are the future of television.

I’ve found myself watching less and less TV for this exact reason! I’m fed up of investing hours into a show only for it to gradually decline in quality. I’m so happy to see Brooklyn 99 on this list though, it’s one of the very few shows I still love!
